Volunteer FAQ
Q: What are the age requirements to volunteer at Famous Fido Rescue?
For the safety of everyone – including the animals – we do not allow minors to volunteer. Volunteers must be 18 years or older. The work requires maturity, responsibility, and the ability to follow safety protocols closely.
Q: What days can I volunteer?
You can volunteer any day of the week. We’re always in need of help, and we deeply appreciate anyone who can commit time to the animals.
Q: What time should I arrive to help with feeding?
Feeding happens twice daily:
-
Morning shift starts at 9:30 AM
-
Evening shift starts at 4:00 PM
This is when we need the most hands-on help. If you’re available during these times, we’d love your support.
Q: What kind of volunteer work is needed?
We urgently need volunteers to assist with:
-
Feeding animals
-
Cleaning litter boxes and kennels
-
Washing bowls and laundry
-
Sanitizing animal areas
These jobs may not be glamorous, but they’re vital to the animals’ care and wellbeing.
Q: Are all the animals friendly?
Not all animals at the rescue will be friendly. Some may be fearful, undersocialized, or recovering from trauma. Volunteers must be calm, respectful of boundaries, and aware of body language.
Q: Will I be working with sick animals?
Yes, it’s possible. This is an active rescue center, and many animals come in needing medical attention. Volunteers must be comfortable in an environment where animals may be ill, recovering, or have special needs. Strict hygiene protocols are in place for everyone’s safety.
Q: Do I need to commit to a regular schedule?
While regular volunteers are the backbone of our work, we understand not everyone can commit long-term. That said, even one reliable shift a week helps us run more smoothly. Consistency, when possible, is appreciated.
Q: Can I play with the animals?
The priority is on care, cleaning, and feeding. Time with the animals – such as gentle socialization or walking – is earned through responsibility and dependability. Once trust is established, you may be asked to assist in these roles.
Q: What should I wear?
Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Closed-toe shoes are required. Please avoid long scarves or dangling jewelry, as these can be safety hazards around animals.
Q: Can I bring my own pets with me while I volunteer?
No. For safety reasons, please do not bring any personal animals to the rescue center.
Q: I’m interested! How do I get started?
