- About Famous Fido
Our Mission
At Famous Fido Rescue, our mission is to protect and advocate for the lives of companion animals in crisis. We are a no-kill rescue and adoption center dedicated to saving the most vulnerable, including those abandoned, abused, neglected, or at risk of euthanasia. Through intervention, education, and compassionate care, we work tirelessly to ensure that every animal has the opportunity to live a full, safe, and loved life.
We believe in a future where no animal is disposable. Our efforts extend beyond rescue to include rehabilitation, spay/neuter advocacy, and community outreach aimed at preventing surrender and promoting responsible guardianship. Every animal who comes through our doors is treated as family, and we are committed to finding them permanent, loving homes where they can truly thrive.
Interventions Before Surrender

Responsible Adoption Practices
We understand that sometimes surrendering an animal is truly the best option for the guardian and companion animal. In these situations we do our utmost to ensure that all animals in our care find a responsible, sustainable and loving forever home for the next phase of their lives.
Wildlife Welfare and Advocacy
We work to change the conversation and improve the lives of domesticated animals in Chicago. But there is a whole planet full of species with whom we must peacefully coexist. Our mission extends to promoting awareness of the threats facing this way of life.
- What We Believe
“We don’t have two hearts, one for animals and one for humans; we have one heart, or we don’t have any.”
- About Our History
Where it all began
Doggie Deli wasn’t just about feeding dogs. It was about a revolution of how we treat animals. This was Gloria’s business in the 80’s that was the first of its kind. Dogs and humans were seated together at booths to eat together. The philosophy behind the food was taste, texture, and experience.
Doggie Deli
Saturday is the busiest day of the week at Famous Fido’s Doggie Deli, so owner Gloria Lissner and her staff have already set up for this afternoon’s birthday party, still two hours away.
