It’s Christmas Eve. The day before families gather. Food is probably already being prepared, gifts are being wrapped, and holiday music is playing in the background. For most, it’s a time of joy and togetherness. But here at the rescue, our phones are still ringing. Our inboxes are still filling up. The messages we receive are not ones of holiday cheer, but heartbreaking pleas to surrender animals.

We wish we could pause for just one day. To let the magic of the season sink in and to feel the warmth that this time of year is supposed to bring. And trust me – we do still have so much to be grateful for. The compassion of our volunteers, the dedication of our supporters, and the love we see when animals find their forever families – these moments keep us going. They remind us why we do this work.

But on Christmas Eve, it’s hard not to feel the weight of it all.

The stories behind the calls are often devastating. A family is moving and can’t bring their dog. A new baby has arrived, and there’s no longer time for the cat. Financial struggles have hit hard, and someone can no longer afford to care for their animal. And then there are the cases where the reasons aren’t clear – where the animals are simply no longer wanted.

Knowing that a dog or cat, who may have once been a cherished companion, is being left behind during what is supposed to be the season of love and giving – it hurts. It breaks our hearts.

We want so desperately to believe that Christmas is a time for families to come together, not fall apart. A time to share meals, stories, and laughter – not to let go of those who depend on us the most. But the reality is, rescue work doesn’t stop for the holidays. It doesn’t pause to let us soak in the spirit of the season. It keeps going, because the need never ends.

And so, we keep going, too. We pick up the phone. We open the emails. We say yes as often as we can, even when it feels like we have nothing left to give. Because these animals don’t have anyone else. And while the world outside may be wrapped in ribbons and twinkling lights, we know that behind closed doors, there are still animals who need saving.

To those of you who support us – who donate, volunteer, adopt, and share our stories – we can’t thank you enough. You are the reason we can keep answering those calls, even on Christmas Eve. You are the reason we can give these animals hope when they need it most.

And to anyone reading this, we ask: If you can, please consider opening your home or your heart to an animal in need. Not just during the holidays, but all year round. Let them be part of your family – this season and every season.

We believe in miracles. We see them happen here all the time. And as much as our hearts ache today, we also know that hope is never too far away. So, we’ll keep showing up. We’ll keep answering the calls. And we’ll keep believing that this work makes a difference.

Because it does. And it always will.

Merry Christmas Eve from all of us at Famous Fido Rescue.

As the year comes to a close, many of us start thinking about taxes, charitable contributions, and ways to make a lasting impact. But did you know that you can use your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to support causes that matter to you, while also reaping some significant tax benefits?

It’s something not everyone knows about, and we wanted to bring it to your attention before the year wraps up. Donating directly from your IRA, through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) or utilizing your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), can be a powerful way to make a difference for the animals at Famous Fido Rescue, all while potentially lowering your taxable income.

What is a QCD and How Does it Work?

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA to a qualified charity, like Famous Fido Rescue. If you’re 70½ or older, you can give up to $100,000 per year to a charity like ours through a QCD. The best part? These funds won’t be taxed as income, which can help reduce your tax bill while making a real impact on the lives of animals in need.

How About RMDs?

Once you reach 73, the IRS requires you to take Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from your traditional IRA each year. If you don’t need these funds, you can donate them directly to a qualified charity like us! By donating your RMD through a QCD, you won’t have to pay taxes on the amount donated, and the gift goes directly toward helping animals who need it most.

Why Should You Consider Donating Through Your IRA?

Tax Benefits: Donations through QCDs can reduce your taxable income, which might help you lower your overall tax burden.

Help Animals in Need: Your contribution helps support the critical work we do at Famous Fido Rescue — from providing shelter to medical care for animals in need.

Simple and Efficient: It’s easy to do! Just contact your IRA custodian to arrange for the QCD, and your gift can go directly to the animals.

Make a Difference Today

Your IRA can be the perfect tool to help us continue our mission of rescuing and caring for animals like the kittens and Prince. Donating through a QCD or your RMD can make a significant difference, all while offering you important tax advantages.

As the year comes to a close, please consider making a donation that will leave a lasting legacy. Every dollar you give goes toward saving lives, providing medical care, and ensuring a better future for animals in need. Contact us today if you have any questions about how to donate through your IRA — we’re here to guide you every step of the way!

Thank you for your support, and we wish you a happy and fulfilling end to the year!

Every single day, we hear the same sickening story: people move and leave their animals behind in an empty apartment, abandoned to fend for themselves. This story we are sharing with you today is not an isolated incident – it happens over and over again, and it is beyond heartbreaking. It’s enraging.

These two innocent cats are just one example of the countless lives lost due to this callous and inhumane behavior. They were left with nothing – no food, no water, and no hope. By the time they were found, it was too late. One had already passed, and the other, too weak to stand, crawled to their companion’s side, crying out in pain before taking their final breath.

We’re sorry we didn’t get there in time. We tried. We fight every single day to save lives like this, to intervene before it’s too late, but the reality is, these animals should never be abandoned in the first place. The suffering they endure – the fear, the hunger, the slow, agonizing deaths – is entirely preventable.

These animals deserve better. They deserve compassion, commitment, and a world where abandonment is unthinkable. To the people who do this: your actions are sickening. You are not walking away without consequence, because their stories will be told, and we will fight for a future where no animal is left behind.

Let this serve as a reminder to all of us: our responsibility to animals is not conditional. It is a lifelong promise. We must be better. They depend on us -and they deserve nothing less.

Imagine instead a world where animals are welcomed as an integral part of family life with children. Integrating our furry companions with our children isn’t just about the animal’s well-being – it enriches the lives of children profoundly. Animals teach kids compassion, patience, and responsibility. They bring out tenderness, a sense of empathy, and a deep understanding of the importance of care and commitment. The joy children bring to animals is just as meaningful; it’s a unique companionship, filled with moments of play, loyalty, and affection that strengthens both child and furry companion alike.

Yes, there will be challenging times. Adjustments will be needed. But giving up shouldn’t be an option. Navigating these challenges teaches kids resilience, problem-solving, and the value of commitment, setting an example that we don’t abandon our loved ones when things get hard.

We have witnessed the heartbreaking moments when children come into our rescue, devastated as their parents give away their cherished cat or dog. It’s a pain that doesn’t need to happen.

Part of this journey involves teaching children to be safe and respectful with animals. Kids need to learn not to put their faces in a dog or cat’s face, as even the gentlest animal can feel threatened or overwhelmed. Instead, children can be taught to approach animals calmly and to respect their space, minimizing any risks. These are small adjustments that make a big difference, ensuring a safe environment for everyone while keeping a cherished animal in the family. Don’t take chances; integrate and educate.

Let’s look toward a future where we don’t give up on animals simply because we’re expanding our families. Let’s show our children that love can grow and adapt, that we can welcome new family members without losing the old. It’s a legacy of compassion that will stay with them for a lifetime and a gift of stability and love that every furry companion deserves.

Our “Ultimate Betrayal” campaign speaks to these moments of commitment. It asks families to think twice before making animals disposable due to family changes. It’s about keeping our furry companions safe, loved, and integrated – and giving our kids the values of loyalty, resilience, and care. Working through challenges, adapting, and finding solutions together helps set a powerful example.

Let’s build a future where animals are cherished through every stage of family life, not abandoned because of it.

Have you ever looked into an animal’s eyes and seen trust, loyalty, even love staring back at you?

Now ask yourself – what would you do to protect that trust? How far would you go to honor that bond?

Being an advocate for animals means making a promise, a lifelong commitment to be there for them, no matter what. It’s not just feeding them, giving them a place to sleep, or a walk around the block. It’s saying, “I’m here for you, for as long as you need me, and I won’t give up on you.”

Here at the rescue, we go to incredible lengths to honor that promise. We don’t give up on our seniors who have lost their families, on animals with medical challenges that seem impossible to overcome. We imagine their lives with a family who will love them forever – someone who won’t walk away when things get hard, who will see their worth in every stage of life. We want every animal to know stability and unconditional love, not a cycle of abandonment.

And these animals need a voice. They need someone to speak up and let the world know that they are here, that they need homes and families who will stay by their side. Even sharing their stories can make a bigger difference than you realize – it can be the spark that connects them with the people they’ve been waiting for.

But this kind of advocacy requires support. Every day, we rely on people to help us care for these animals, to provide food, cover medical bills, and make sure they have what they need to survive and thrive. Spaying, neutering, vaccines, microchipping, and specialist care all come from those who believe in them and their potential for a brighter future. Without this support, our advocacy wouldn’t be possible.

“If I was offered a million dollars – and I am not a wealthy person – I would not give my animals up. With them, I feel like the richest person in the world.”

This isn’t just a sentiment; it’s a way of life. Imagine a world where more of us saw animals this way. Fewer would be left waiting in rescues, hoping for a family to come. Being an advocate means never turning our backs, even when it’s challenging. It means creating real, lasting relationships, guiding them through every stage of life, and finding solutions for the ones who need extra care.

Every animal at our rescue deserves that level of commitment. They need voices, people who will help them find forever homes and help us provide the food, medical care, and love that they so desperately need. If you want to make a difference for an animal who has no one else, please consider sponsoring one of our rescues. To learn more, email us at fido@famousfidorescue.com.

These animals give us everything they have. Let’s be the ones who protect that trust with everything we have in return. Stand up for them. Be their advocate. Share their stories. Help us give them the lives they deserve – safe, loved, and forever homebound. They’re counting on us.

Imagine giving your heart, your loyalty, your very best for years, only to be discarded when you’re most vulnerable. It’s a pattern we see again and again at the rescue, and it’s devastating – animals who’ve spent their entire lives trusting, loving, and depending on their guardians are abandoned when they need that love returned.

For animals like Prince, the betrayal often starts subtly, and then the disregard becomes more overt. Sometimes it’s a growing impatience with the needs that come with aging – maybe Prince’s guardian found his slower steps and extra care too demanding. Maybe his medical needs became “too much to handle.” But instead of working through these challenges, instead of adjusting to meet his needs, they simply turned away.

They stopped seeing him as the little life that brought them comfort and companionship and started viewing him as a burden.

In some cases, this betrayal means animals are left alone for long stretches of time, isolated in rooms, ignored, or denied affection because they are “inconvenient.” We’ve heard stories of senior animals confined to basements, left without interaction because their mere presence became a “problem.” Others, like Prince, are left at rescues with cold remarks like, “I can’t look at him anymore,” or “He’s just too old.” It’s as though the years of loyalty and love are erased, and all that’s left is the heartbreak and confusion of abandonment.

What’s most heartbreaking about this ultimate betrayal is the animals’ confusion. They don’t understand why they’re left behind, why the hands that once reached down to pet them are no longer there, or why the laps they nestled into are gone. Prince’s story reminds us of the heavy responsibility we take on when we welcome animals into our lives – they trust us completely, and we are all they have. To betray that trust is more than just turning away; it’s breaking a bond that they thought was unbreakable.

And now, Prince is left to carry that burden. He doesn’t know why he’s here, why the person he loved abandoned him, or why he’s facing a serious medical challenge alone. But we’re determined to rewrite his story. We’re here to tell him that, even though he’s known betrayal, he’ll know love and compassion again. And we need a community willing to make sure Prince feels valued, respected, and adored, not abandoned.

Let’s prove to Prince that love is still here, that he’s worth it, and that the kindness of strangers can heal even the deepest betrayals.

If you would like to donate to help Prince with his medical care, please see his fundraiser below. Thank you for your support.

There’s a particular kind of betrayal that animals should never have to endure – the betrayal of trust, of safety, and of love. For so many cats and dogs, abandonment isn’t the beginning of their suffering; it’s the final blow after a lifetime of mistreatment. Declawing, neglect, and ultimately discarding an animal is one of the cruelest forms of abandonment, and it leaves scars that go far deeper than the physical.

Nomi’s story is a powerful example. She was found outside our rescue, left alone in a box with no way to protect herself. She cried softly, frightened and confused, her helplessness breaking our hearts. We opened the box and saw a cat who had been stripped of every defense – Nomi had been declawed on all four paws, left completely vulnerable. Declawing isn’t just a cosmetic procedure; it’s a painful amputation that removes not just a cat’s claws but part of the bone, leaving them with lasting pain, trauma, and fear. For Nomi, it meant a life where she couldn’t protect herself, even if her very survival depended on it.

To declaw and then abandon an animal is the ultimate betrayal. It’s a stark reminder of why we fight so hard for every animal who comes through our doors. Thankfully, Nomi’s story has a hopeful ending. She found her forever family with the Costellos, who have surrounded her with the love and security she so deserves. But not every animal is so lucky. For many, abandonment is the final chapter, with no one to step in and save them.

We need everyone to stand up and say “no more” to this kind of cruelty. Animals like Nomi can’t speak up for themselves, but we can. We can advocate for their right to a life free from unnecessary pain, fear, and betrayal. Together, we can create a world where animals like Nomi are valued, respected, and loved from beginning to end. Thank you to every person who joins us in this fight – who adopts, donates, volunteers, and speaks out. Together, we’ve already made a difference for Nomi, and we’ll keep making steps towards a kinder world for all animals.

Volunteering in animal rescue is not for the faint-hearted. It’s a commitment that requires time, energy, and a heart ready to feel deeply. Here at Famous Fido Rescue, we are blessed to have a small, devoted team – people who have been with us every week, month after month, year after year. Their dedication and commitment are the bedrock of everything we do. Without them, we simply couldn’t exist. But as much as we cherish and appreciate every single one of these incredible souls, we desperately need more hands, more hearts willing to join us and share this burden.

The reality is that rescue work is hard. It’s emotionally and physically exhausting. There are days when our spirits are tested, when the stories of animals who come to us are just too much to bear, and when the endless cycle of cleaning, feeding, and caring seems relentless. But it’s because of these animals – because of the lives they’ve led and the suffering they’ve endured – that we continue. They’ve been let down so many times, abandoned, or left with no one to care for them. At Famous Fido Rescue, we have 130 cats and dogs, each with their own story, their own need for a kind touch, a clean space, and a glimpse of hope.

By volunteering, you are not just cleaning a room or filling a water bowl. You’re offering these animals a lifeline. When you clean the cat rooms or the dog rooms, you’re creating a safe, comfortable space where they can begin to heal. You’re giving them a reason to trust again. Your hands are not just lifting mops or sweeping up fur – they’re part of something much larger. Every task you take on lightens the load for us all and brings more relief and hope to the animals who need it most.

This work isn’t easy, and it shouldn’t be taken lightly. Volunteering with us means making a commitment, showing up even on the days when it’s hard. But that’s what rescue is. It’s showing up for animals who have no one else.

Volunteering is creating joy in the small moments, the soft purrs, the wagging tails, knowing that with every shift, with every act of care, you’re giving them a better chance.

We know that it’s not for everyone, but if you are someone who believes in making a real difference, who wants to be part of a team that stands up for those who can’t speak for themselves, then we ask you – please, volunteer with us. Help us clean the cat rooms, the dog rooms. Help us bring light into their lives and give them the love they’ve been searching for. Together, we can make sure that no animal at Famous Fido Rescue ever feels alone again.

Adopting a rescue cat or dog is not just about adding an animal to your home – it’s about making a promise. It’s a commitment to love beyond initial moments of joy, to stand by a furry companion who may not yet know how to trust or love in return. Too often, rescue animals come to us with stories that break your heart – tales of neglect, abandonment, or trauma that have left them wary of human touch and hesitant to believe that safety exists. They’re not broken; they’re survivors, carrying the weight of their past with every cautious glance and step.

Why don’t some cats and dogs trust right away? Imagine living in a world where every hand raised might strike instead of comfort, where every loud noise signals danger, not play. For many rescue animals, people were not the warm arms of a friend but the shadow of fear. This is why trust is so hard for them to give. This is why they might run, cower, or even defend themselves when what they want most is simply to feel safe.

And this is where the human heart and patience come into play. Building trust with these animals isn’t a sprint; it’s a marathon that demands time, empathy, and resilience. Adopters must understand that behind the tentative paws and the watchful eyes, there’s an animal hoping that this time will be different – that this home will mean forever. Progress is often slow and filled with small victories. It might take days for a cat to step out of its hiding place, or weeks before a dog wags its tail when you enter the room. But those moments? They’re everything. They mean hope is growing and trust is taking root.

It’s in these moments that the bond begins to form. When an animal, once terrified of human presence, finally looks up with softened eyes, there is no greater reward. This isn’t just a bond; it’s a breakthrough, a declaration of love that’s been tested and proven. It’s a reminder that resilience exists in all forms.

Healing – however slow – is always possible. But it doesn’t happen without commitment.

Without the unwavering decision to show up every single day, especially when the progress is hard to see, adoptions don’t last. And these animals deserve more than another chapter of uncertainty in their stories.

Adopting a rescue is making a vow not to give up, to meet the fear with patience and the hesitation with gentleness. It’s the act of falling in love with an animal who may take time to love you back and knowing that every step toward trust is worth the wait. These bonds, forged from patience and understanding, are what ensure that adoption isn’t just a fleeting moment of joy but a lifetime of shared love. For the animals, it means they finally know what it means to be safe. For the adopter, it means becoming a hero in the simplest, most profound way: by giving someone who had nothing a life full of everything.

This is why it matters. This is why rescue work is not just about rehoming – it’s about teaching, healing, and loving beyond the broken pieces until they are whole again. This is why we don’t give up, and why we ask you, as an adopter, to hold that same promise close to your heart. Because trust is built, love is learned, and the greatest transformations come when we choose to stay the course.

Every day, at Famous Fido Rescue and countless other good rescues, we face gut-wrenching decisions. Animals come to us from every kind of heartbreaking situation: abandoned, neglected, scared, and in desperate need of medical care. Each one deserves a chance, and we want so much to be their advocate, their safety net, their hope. But the truth is, we can’t do it all alone. We can’t be the answer for every animal who needs help.

When we’re asked to cover medical bills, emergency vet visits, and long-term care for animals who’ve been found or abandoned, it stretches our resources to the absolute limit. We are not government-funded. We operate on donations alone, every penny going directly to the food, medical care, and support of over 130 cats and dogs currently in our care. We push ourselves to the very edge trying to help every animal we can. But when we’re asked to cover more than what’s possible, we face an impossible choice. No rescue can continue like this without breaking under the weight. If communities keep relying solely on rescues to manage every emergency and expense, it will eventually bankrupt the very organizations trying hardest to make a difference.

If you find an animal in need, remember – they are depending on you. In that moment, if no one else is there to speak for them, they have only you to advocate for their care, to help them find safety, to be the one who steps up. Please, do what you can to be there for them. Start a GoFundMe to help cover medical costs; apply for CareCredit if a vet visit is needed; post their story on social media, and tag us so we can help share it and reach more people. We’re here to support your efforts and help you spread the word, but understand that we simply cannot take on every expense without risking the survival of our rescue.

This isn’t just a reality at Famous Fido Rescue – it’s the challenge faced by every good rescue trying to do right by animals. We’re not only struggling to meet the daily demands of our care; we’re also striving to build a better world where no animal is left behind. But if we’re going to make that vision a reality, it will require a community effort. The responsibility for these innocent lives can’t fall solely on the shoulders of rescues. When we come together, each of us stepping in where we can, every animal has a chance.

So, when you see an animal in need, remember that you can be the voice they don’t have. Please, be the advocate they so desperately depend on. Be the one who stands up when they have no one else. Together, we can make sure they’re not left alone. Together, we can create a compassionate world where every animal finds safety, love, and care. But it will take all of us. Please, help make this vision a reality – because they need you now more than ever.

If you’re passionate about making a difference for animals in need, consider organizing a fundraiser to support your local rescue. Every dollar raised for Famous Fido Rescue goes directly to food, medical care, shelter, and love for the animals who need it most. Hosting a small event, setting up an online fundraiser, or even reaching out to friends and family for contributions can make an incredible impact. Rescues like Famous Fido, and many others working tirelessly, depend on community support to continue their life-saving work. With your help, we can extend our reach, help more animals, and ensure that no animal is left behind. Your compassion and commitment mean the world to us – and even more to the animals who will be given a second chance because of it. Thank you for being a part of this journey and for standing up for those who have no voice.
