We rescue and rehabilitate the animals that many other shelters feel they cannot take. Most of our animals would have been killed if we had not stepped in. No animal, with the chance of a healthy happy life, is declined medical treatment at Famous Fido. We educate people to think of themselves as guardians to their pets, not owners, so that the animal’s next home is their forever home. We are saving the lives of the animals that need us most.
Rescuing animals is an expensive business. It costs on average [enter figure] for just one month of vet’s bills for the animals we take in. Fundraising is probably the most useful way for people to help us help the animals, so get creative!
Like our page on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. Share and retweet the posts you are interested in. Sharing our work, advertising our many adoptable animals and letting people know about our fundraisers can make all the difference to the lives of the animals. Raising our profile through social networking contributes to raising dollars.
Many employers will match the donation you make to a chosen charity. Speak to your employer to see if they currently have a program that does this. If not, encourage them to start! Pass their details to us so we can make contact asking to be a preferred charity.
Visit our Little Treasure’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/FamousFidoAuction to take part in our online auction.
Every month we hold an online auction where you can bid on a range of new and nearly-new donated items, including housewares, CD’s, DVD’s, jewelry, giftware, electronics, pet items and much more. The more you buy the more you will be helping the animals. Every dollar raised goes towards funding their vetting and care.
The treasure chest is replenished every month, so remember to come back and see what new treasures we have.
We welcome all items that are new or gently used. Everyone has items sitting in their home that they no longer need or use. We accept everything from jewelry to furniture to clothing. If you are unsure if we can use your items, feel free give us a call and ask.
If you would like to donate to the treasure chest, please call Famous Fido 773-907-0305 or drop your items into the rescue at 5430 N Clark St. Ask about delivery/pick up possibilities for large items. You may also take pictures of your items and send them to us to feature online and ship them to the buyer yourself, in which case we can reimburse your shipping costs. We have many options and are always grateful for your contribution. All donations are tax-deductible. Please ask for a receipt at the time of your donation.
Do you have unwanted items that could be sold to raise funds for Famous Fido? We are happy to sell your unwanted items from our monthly Facebook Little Treasures Auction, but alternatively you can sell them yourself directly from your ebay account. Your items may be seen by even more potential buyers and may raise a better price.
These are items that we desperately need on a day-to-day basis to keep the rescue going. Go to our Amazon Wish List [enter link] to find the list. From canned dog food to Kong toys to paper towels, it’s all absolutely vital. If you find the items at a better price elsewhere, feel free to purchase them and post them to us. Alternatively, you can deliver them directly to the rescue at 5430 N Clark St.

Invite your friends to a themed party in your home. Decorate your home in line with your chosen theme. You could relate the theme to a seasonal sporting event like the Superbowl or the World Series. Serve themed food and ask your guests to wear appropriate costume. Sell raffle tickets and play themed games. Ask guests to make a donation to Famous Fido, as a cover charge.
Have a fundraising birthday or adoption day party for your dog. Invite your friends and your dog’s puppy pals. Choose a suitable date near your dog’s birthday or adoption day. Make sure it's a date most of your friends will be available. Choose an appropriate venue. It doesn’t have to be your home. If you’re inviting a lot of dogs and their guardians, it might be more appropriate to host it in the park or at the dog beach. Consider which dogs you invite, if the dogs are well socialized and if they’ll get along. Send invitations. Make sure you let people know it’s a fundraiser! Play games with the dogs or set up an agility course. Have doggie themed decorations for your party. Sell treats (both for the dogs and the humans) and ask people to make donations to Famous Fido in lieu of gifts.
Are you a great cook? Can you make beautiful handicrafts? Homemade gifts such as baked goods or handicrafts always sell well. If the goods are non-perishable contact us so we can advertise them through our Facebook page. You can also sell directly from a well-trafficked location or even your own yard. You can get a team together to organise a big sale or have a stall at a pre-existing event such as a local community sports game or parade. Make sure to have clear signs visible informing people that every dollar will go to the animals.
Approach local bars and businesses to hold a fundraiser for Famous Fido, where a percentage of the profits go to us. We’ve had great success with these in the past. Sell raffle tickets where people can win prizes donated by local business. More expensive items can also be auctioned off to participants. Hotel stays and restaurant meals always raise a lot of money.
